What Spotsylvania County offers

Spotsylvania County has four major Civil War battles in its borders: Chancellorsville, the Wilderness, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania Court House. Add Lake Anna, parks and a large number of newer neighborhoods, and there is plenty to do close to home.

A little history

Spotsylvania County was established in 1721 and named for Lieutenant Governor Alexander Spotswood, who was the great-great-grandfather of Robert E. Lee. Four major Civil War battles were fought within its borders. During the Battle of Chancellorsville in May 1863, Confederate General Stonewall Jackson was wounded by friendly fire in the county and died a few days later at nearby Guinea Station.
